YouTube dan YouTube Music telah menjadi salah satu platform yang banyak digemari oleh orang banyak, YouTube Music sendiri bisa dikatakan sebagai versi audio di YouTube.
Meskipun begitu, Google selaku perusahaan utama memberikan dukungan spesial lainnya di YouTube Music seperti misalnya lisensi.
Hari ini informasi terbaru mengatakan bahwa YouTube Music kehilangan beberapa lagu yang ada di platform mereka, karena masalah lisensi dari SESAC.
SESAC sendiri menaungi lisensi dari jutaan lagu dari berbagai macam platform termasuk YouTube Music, karena masalah ini lagu-lagu yang tersedia akhirnya dihapus sementara di YouTube USA.
SESAC memiliki alasan tegas untuk melindungi artis mereka, tentu ada masalah internal yang meliputi penayangan lagu di berbagai macam situasi.
“Represents songwriter’s and publisher’s copyrighted musical works and their right under the Copyright Law to publicly perform those works inside businesses. Essentially, anytime music is performed, played, or broadcast to the public, a license from the copyright holder is required
SESAC offers a blanket license agreement that is recognized as the most convenient and cost-effective method to obtain the required authorization to publicly perform all of the copyrighted music in the SESAC repertory.”
Sementara itu dari pihak YouTube sendiri memberikan pernyataan bahwa alasan mengapa lagu-lagu di bawah SESAC dihapus karena telah melewati masa perjanjian alias Expired.
“We have held good faith negotiations with SESAC to renew our existing deal. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we were unable to reach an equitable agreement before its expiration. We take copyright very seriously and as a result, content represented by SESAC is no longer available on YouTube in the US. We are in active conversations with SESAC and are hoping to reach a new deal as soon as possible.” – Kata juru bicara YouTube.
Mereka menekankan dengan adanya masa perjanjian tadi, kedua belah pihak setuju bahwa mereka tidak akan menayangkan lagu-lagu di bawah naungan SESAC.
Diketahui juga kedua perusahaan tidak memiliki perjanjian Renewal sehingga secara otomatis harus dihapus, beberapa artis besar dalam naungannya ialah Adelle hingga Neil Diamond.
